Kauai was awesome!!!




Had a great time in Kauai. We stayed on the north side in Princeville. The north side is by far my favorite side of the island. The weather was great and the surf was good. We spent our days surfing, hiking, kayaking and sitting on the beach, oh ya and taking photos, not a bad little trip. I never really shoot flowers that much, but everything in Hawaii is beautiful, I couldn't resist. I used a so so Nikon macro lens, but it does get the job done. I did notice that I was really enjoying myself, I think because being so close and usually down on the ground it tends to slow down my photography. With digital I feel I get in this shoot and go (run) mode. I hate that. When I shoot film I really think about every shot because a roll of film goes fast and is not cheap. Anything to slow me down makes me remember why I love photography. Here are a few from the trip still working on many more. I hope you all had a great Memorial Day!!!

It has been a busy May...

Just returned from the beautiful island of Bermuda. I was there shooting an event, I did get a little time to enjoy it's amazing beaches. Here are a few of photos from the trip. I am off to Kauai Sunday for another job but I will have a lot more time to shoot stock photos this trip.

No Waves but Plenty of Wind...


Not much going on in the wave department lately. There has been some good windy days though. This is my brother, he owns the other part of Tidal Stock. We love to enjoy what ever Mother Nature give us, surf, wind or snow.

Ultimate Boarder Competition Comes to Ventura

It has been a little while since I have posted anything sorry. A lot has been going on. I two trips coming up in May. First week of may I am off to Bermuda, then I come home for a week then off to Kauai. I am looking forward to both trips!!! I haven't been to Bermuda and it looks amazing. I can't wait to hit some warm water. The water around here has been freezing.

This week I was shooting the Ultimate Boarder Competition. It's basically a triathlon for extreme sports athletes. Athletes compete in surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding and the one with the best 3 combines scores wins($30,000). The cool part is that the surfing and the skateboarding were held here in Ventura. The snowboarding took place at Squaw Valley. Here are a few photos from the surfing and skateboarding.


Klye Knox from Imperial Beach, California was surfing flawlessly on Wednesday and ended up with a 2nd place finish in the surf part of the event.


It was Eric Mchenry from Encinitas California who squeaked by Kyle in the finals to take first.


Chad Shetler from Dana Point, California took first place in the skateboarding part of the event.


But it was this man from Carlsbad, California, Aaron Astorga also know as double A, who took home the $30,000. Check out all the info at ultimateboarder.com.

Here is a little project I did while attending Brooks Institute of Photography. I called it Urban Shark.

My friend Chris Fowler recently opened an apparel shop in Solana Beach: Fowler's. It is a cool shop and if you are in San Diego check it out. Besides clothes he also displays some cool art including Jennifer Becker's and mine. He is having a little party this Saturdays. If you are in town come over and hang out, it should be a great time. These are from another surfing session where I attach the camera to my surfboard. I have the camera take a picture every two seconds. It's cool because I never know what I will end up with.





This shot, the camera is still on my board. Sometimes I end up with some abstract images. I kind of like it.

Snowboard Contest at Mt.High


Over the weekend I was at Mt.High shooting the 2008 snowboarding $25,000 Cholula Triple Air Show. It was a great event with many outstanding competitors. Despite it being the closest mountain resort to Ventura (except for Mt. Baldy), I haven't been there in years. I remember going there often when I was younger, but these days I usually just head up to Mammoth Mountain. For being a smaller resort, they have set up some killer jibs and jumps including a full half pipe to test your skills.

There was a little window in between storms giving the riders great weather, however, the snow got a little slow in the afternoon making it hard for the riders to clear the jumps. Even so, they still went huge.
