IT STILL FEELS LIKE SUMMER! I love it.

It has been a wonderful winter so far not really in the waves department but the weather. Here are some pics from the last few weeks. We got one pretty good swell and well some of the boys just went mental. Looks like we might get some waves on Thanksgiving. I would be so thankful :) I want to thank YOU for the support and have a great Thanksgiving!

And lastly I end with an image I created waiting for my client (Nelson Racing Engines—mostly all my photos on that website). He builds hot rod engines. The engine I was going to shoot wasn’t ready yet so I decided to take a few pics outside his shop. This is was what ended up with. Kind of an ire shot…

A DAY AT THE ZOO!!!

So I have been going through all my images, organizing, key wording, and getting them ready for the launch of the new TidalStock.com and RyanCardonePhotography.com websites (hope to launch by December). It has been slow going but fun at the same time. I have forgotten about a lot of the photos I have. I don't always have time to look at all my work. When I shoot film (Yes I still shoot film) it is easier to quickly go through the rolls and pick out the good ones. Digital photography is a much different story. I can shoot thousands of photos in a session. You get the point. So as I was going through my work and I came across these. I love the zoo, no it's not like being in the wild but it is still a fun place to take the camera. I think this day I was in the mood to get the not so standard shot. These were taken at the Santa Barbara Zoo.

I hope these made you smile. Keep yours eyes open and your finger on the shutter button because you never know what you will see!

Cory Arrambide last wild card to make it into the WCT at Mundaka.

17 year old local Ventura surf star Cory Arrambide got to surf his 1st ever WCT event. After Troy Brooks of Australia had to pull out of the event for an injury, Cory got to step in as his replacement. As I understood he was up in France for all the WQS events and had to rush to down to Mundaka, Spain to make his heat. After all that he had to go against Kelly Slater, seven time world champ, not an easy first heat. Kelly did end up beating Cory, but it was nice to see a hometown kid get a chance to surf with the best surfers in the world. Bobby Martinez from Carpinteria is still going strong and sits on number 7 on the WCT. You can see all great surfing action live on www.aspworldtour.com. Here is a picture I shot of Cory a few weeks ago at Pipes in Ventura just after sunset.

Oldies but goodies!!!

I have been going trough all my work lately because I am getting everything ready for the new websites. It has been fun to see my older pictures again. I wish I could go back to when I first starting shooting. My eyes were fresh, I had no style, so everything I shot was new. Yes I have more experience now and have more technical ability and better equipment, but sometimes I find myself staying with in the box. It is simply easy and comfortable to stay that way. I teach a digital photography class to kids and they are always going outside the box. So I challenge myself to go outside the box as much as I can remember. I try to shoot things I normally don't know how to shoot, or shoot in a style different from my own. It keeps my mind fresh. Give this a try next time, you will usually come out learning something new, and most likely get some great shots.

Good Luck....happy shooting!!!!!!!!

Shore break at Malibu.

Here is a fun shot of some shore break. I was going to shoot in the water but the tide killed the waves. So I just tried to get some cool wave shots. This was one of my favorites from the bunch.

Here is one more. Same day as the dog pic.

GOOD DOG!!!

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. I have been super busy. RyanCardonePhotography.com is live but we are still trying to add content. We are still working on the NEW TidalStock.com website and hope to go live by the end of August. Just did a shot for a clothing company in Oceanside and took pictures at the Life Rolls On, "Night by the Ocean" event in Beverly Hills. So it has been a crazy end of July. I have been shooting in the water in the mist of all this because we have had some pretty good south swells. So I hope to have some new surf photos on here soon. Until then, here is a fun dog pic. Happy shooting.........

We can make prints or posters of any of the pictures you see here or on our website.

One more thing... we will be updating our website very soon. It will have more photos, a search, a store and so much more. TIP #1--well maybe!!!

Composition is a huge part of photography. Sometimes it can make or break a photo. Here is a tip for you to consider that might help you find a different angle when considering composition. Too often I see photos shot from eye level. It is the easiest level to shoot from and therefore the most common. Now I am not saying that good photos can't come from that level, but the problem is that we all see at that level so it is nothing new to the viewer. Why not try to give the viewer something that they don't see too often, a different perspective. Try laying on the ground, getting up high, going at dogs eye view, what ever it takes to not shoot at eye level.

Try shooting a roll of film or a memory card full of images not shot at eye level. Have fun with this; think of all the different perspectives a photo can be taken at.

To go further take one photo at eye level then how ever many other photos at different levels to see the differences. Most of the time getting lower or higher gets rid of a lot of stuff in the background and brings more attention to the subject.

Please try this, any questions, comments please fill free to ask. Again HAVE FUN!!
