Ventura on 12/26

It's breaking beyond the pier!!!

Haven't seen lines like this in a long time!!!

That little spec in the center of the photo is not a dust spot, its a boat. I don't think I would like to be on a boat that day.

Happy Holidays!!!

It has been a little while since my last post, sorry. It is always crazy around the holidays. There sure hasn't been a shortage of waves the past few weeks. The 26th we had great waves. I haven't seen it that big in a while. I have a lot of photos to go through and hope to post some soon! More waves are on the way and it looks like the weather will cooperate as well.

I leave you with a photo from the 26th. This was classic, I was just taking pictures of waves and surfers. This was a smaller set and I was just going to take a few photos of the surfer dropping in. I was looking through the view finder and I saw something huge jump out of the water. It shocked me, because I wasn't ready for it but I did happen to get one snap and this is what I got. The crowd on the beach erupted with cheer and excitement, it was a pretty amazing site. One goes to the original Local!!!

IT STILL FEELS LIKE SUMMER! I love it.

It has been a wonderful winter so far not really in the waves department but the weather. Here are some pics from the last few weeks. We got one pretty good swell and well some of the boys just went mental. Looks like we might get some waves on Thanksgiving. I would be so thankful :) I want to thank YOU for the support and have a great Thanksgiving!

And lastly I end with an image I created waiting for my client (Nelson Racing Engines—mostly all my photos on that website). He builds hot rod engines. The engine I was going to shoot wasn’t ready yet so I decided to take a few pics outside his shop. This is was what ended up with. Kind of an ire shot…

A DAY AT THE ZOO!!!

So I have been going through all my images, organizing, key wording, and getting them ready for the launch of the new TidalStock.com and RyanCardonePhotography.com websites (hope to launch by December). It has been slow going but fun at the same time. I have forgotten about a lot of the photos I have. I don't always have time to look at all my work. When I shoot film (Yes I still shoot film) it is easier to quickly go through the rolls and pick out the good ones. Digital photography is a much different story. I can shoot thousands of photos in a session. You get the point. So as I was going through my work and I came across these. I love the zoo, no it's not like being in the wild but it is still a fun place to take the camera. I think this day I was in the mood to get the not so standard shot. These were taken at the Santa Barbara Zoo.

I hope these made you smile. Keep yours eyes open and your finger on the shutter button because you never know what you will see!

Cory Arrambide last wild card to make it into the WCT at Mundaka.

17 year old local Ventura surf star Cory Arrambide got to surf his 1st ever WCT event. After Troy Brooks of Australia had to pull out of the event for an injury, Cory got to step in as his replacement. As I understood he was up in France for all the WQS events and had to rush to down to Mundaka, Spain to make his heat. After all that he had to go against Kelly Slater, seven time world champ, not an easy first heat. Kelly did end up beating Cory, but it was nice to see a hometown kid get a chance to surf with the best surfers in the world. Bobby Martinez from Carpinteria is still going strong and sits on number 7 on the WCT. You can see all great surfing action live on www.aspworldtour.com. Here is a picture I shot of Cory a few weeks ago at Pipes in Ventura just after sunset.

Oldies but goodies!!!

I have been going trough all my work lately because I am getting everything ready for the new websites. It has been fun to see my older pictures again. I wish I could go back to when I first starting shooting. My eyes were fresh, I had no style, so everything I shot was new. Yes I have more experience now and have more technical ability and better equipment, but sometimes I find myself staying with in the box. It is simply easy and comfortable to stay that way. I teach a digital photography class to kids and they are always going outside the box. So I challenge myself to go outside the box as much as I can remember. I try to shoot things I normally don't know how to shoot, or shoot in a style different from my own. It keeps my mind fresh. Give this a try next time, you will usually come out learning something new, and most likely get some great shots.

Good Luck....happy shooting!!!!!!!!
Ryan
